This could be motivation of personal pride and satisfaction that physical things may not accomplish. There are five main emotions that drives us: we have love, Joy, anger, sadness, and fear. Love, can give us all of these emotions, when you love someone it brings you Joy.And this love can also cause us to feel sadness, fear and anger. We may worry that somebody will not love us back and this can bring the sadness. You could also be Jealous or angry if somebody does not love us back. Meanwhile, there is one positive emotion about being a returning student here the University of Phoenix and that emotion is pride. As a returning student in my forties, I have so much pride in myself and I know I will not give up on my education. Within a year I will have my degree and no one can take that away from me.This is something that, I Alone, have put in the hard hours for my own personal success. On the other hand, the one negative emotion about returning to school is worry. I worry about everything, from the roof over my head to feeding my family. But, I worry more about school, my grades and completing my assignment of on time. I worry that I may not have what it takes to be a college graduate and do not have the strength to complete my degree. I worry about suc ceeding as a student. The incentive approach to motivation is what will motivate me to complete my degree. Each week I seek out the results of my grades s an incentive and the fulfillment in my motivation to complete my college degree. This incentive helps push and pull me through to the next week. Every week that is completed, is one week closer to achieving goals. When I need extra incentive, I will use of some of sadness and grief of when I previously quit school as a deterrent and a motivator to stay on track. As this previously caused me great sadness and frustration that motivates me to stay in school. Motivation and Emotion The abstract should be one paragraph of between 150 and 250 words. Strategic Financial Management Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1
Strategic Financial Management - Coursework Example However, among all these objectives, the main one for business organisations is supposed to be an increase of the value to its shareholders. In this case, the bid to maximize the wealth of its shareholders becomes a fundamental goal of management. It is important to note that investors often anticipate earning satisfactory returns from the investments they establish in the firm. Shareholders are the actual owners of the business, which means that senior managers are have a responsibility to ensure maximisation of investorââ¬â¢s wealth, not just for the success of the business, but also for continued investments, thus gaining the ability to increase its market share and financial position. Maximizing this wealth can be determined by the payout of dividends as well as capital gains through an increasing market value for a particular share price of the business. In the process of achieving this objective, conflicts can sometimes arise in the business. In this case, business managers may end up making decisions based on their interests and not achieving the investorsââ¬â¢ wealth. Therefore, traditional view is that profit maximization needs to be made the ultimate goal and objective for the business. Financial managers are often involved in managing cash flows on behalf of the companies they work for as well as their respective owners. In any firm, financial management is often concerned with the process of making decisions in three main areas, which include; investing, financing as well as dividend policy. In all these, wealth maximization always remains to be the fundamental goal for the firm. Business managers are expected to ensure that they effectively manage the stock prices for the benefit of their respective shareholders since they are needed towards increasing the financial muscles for the company so that it can achieve its other objectives (Kaen 2003, 87). In this case, the criticisms raised against this

Consumer Protection Sale of Goods Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Consumer Protection Sale of Goods - Essay Example Upon seeing the advertisement in the Old Castle newspaper regarding the racquet, which read: " This is a fantastic new tennis racquet specially designed for beginners. Its unique anti-scratch finish means that however many times you knock it, scratch it, drop it, the scratches will not show. Your racquet will look as good as a new after many years of use. are implied in a contract of sale: the goods much match the description; the condition of the goods must be satisfactory; there must be satisfactory quality; and lastly, the good must be 'reasonably fit' for the purpose for which the consumer is buying them.1 Each of these terms must conform to the contract of sale. In this case Jim had, upon joining the Old Castle Racquets Club (hereafter, ORC) and seeing the advertisement, decided to purchase the SS after paying his yearly fee of 200 to ORC and signing up for a sex week period of tennis lessons at a price of 120. Completing his transactions at ORC Jim immediately went to Old Castle Sports and Leisure (hereafter, OSL) and purchased a SS racquet for 250, paying in cash. Jim's dissatisfaction arose when after only several weeks of using the SS, contrary to the advertisement's assertions and the warranty which came with the SS the surface had become very scratched and by week three the racquet was totally unusable when the handle came off. In determining the remedies available to Jim it is necessary to show that there was a breach of contract which leads us back to the four terms of a contract: description, condition, quality and fitness. In Harlingdon & Leinster Enterprises v Christopher Hull Fine Art Ltd [1991] 1 QB 5642 the court found that "for the sale to be 'by' description the description had to be influential in the sale so as to become an essential term or condition of the contract." In Jim's the case the description (i.e. the advertisement) was an essential reason he purchased the SS as evidenced by his actions and speed with which he viewed the advertisement and the immediately proceeded to OSR to purchase the SS. Also, in Beale v Taylor [1967] 3 All ER 2533 the court found that "the buyer was entitled to damages because, although the description of the goods were not false to the knowledge of either the seller or the buyer, yet fundamentally the seller was selling goods of the description advertised." As i n Jim's case even if the seller (OSL) was unaware that the advertising of the SS was wrong, Jim had purchased the SS based on that description. Satisfactory condition4 is the next term to consider which relates to satisfactory condition.5 Rogers v Parish (Scarborough) Ltd [1987] QB 9336 found that the court upheld that goods unfit7 for use purchased are unmerchantable. As in Jim's case, he purchased an expensive racquet for the sole purpose of taking lesson and playing tennis. The inherent quality issues rendered the SS unmerchantable. In Stevenson v Rogers [1999] 1 All ER 6138 on appeal the court held that

Nagorno Karabakh Conflict - Law and War Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Nagorno Karabakh Conflict - Law and War - Essay Example Second Geneva Convention 1949 is composed of 63 articles and mainly provides protection for those sick, wounded and shipwrecked soldiers who are involved in fighting war at sea. The Third Geneva Convention 1949 concentrates on war prisoners and has 143 articles. The category of the prisoners and their places of captivity are more precisely mentioned in the articles. Their financial assets and legal proceedings against them are also considered. The articles also state that the prisoners should be given civilised treatment and they should be given proper medical aid. The Fourth Geneva Convention 1949 deals with civilians although they are not involved in wartime activities. It has 159 articles and they were adopted after the World War II when it was seen that absence of such convention had disastrous effects on the civilians. It deals with protection of civilians against the consequences of wars. It distinguishes between foreigners on territories belonging to parties involved in war an d civilians in territories occupied during war. It also has a special clause for civilian interns. There is a common Article 3 which specifically deals with non-international armed conflicts that take place within the boundary of states. Such conflicts cover ââ¬Å"traditional civil wars and internal armed conflictsâ⬠. This article states that all hostages should be treated in humane manner and prohibits murder and torture of the hostages. The ââ¬Å"sick, wounded and shipwreckedâ⬠should be given proper medical aid. The Articles provides rights to the ICRC to help the parties in conflict (ââ¬Å"The Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocolsâ⬠).... The ââ¬Å"sick, wounded and shipwreckedâ⬠should be given proper medical aid. The Articles provides rights to the ICRC to help the parties in conflict (ââ¬Å"The Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocolsâ⬠). The major portion of IHL is stated in the Geneva Conventions. There are some other agreements:- 1) protection of cultural property, 2) prohibition of use of weapons in armed conflicts that can cause harm to civilians, unnecessary suffering or long lasting damage to environment, 3) prohibition of children from getting involved in armed conflicts. This law also introduced several identifiable symbols and one common example is the Red Cross. There have been innumerous violations of IHL and one major example is the Nagorno- Karabakh Conflict (ââ¬Å"What is International Humanitarian Law?â⬠2) International Criminal Law is formed to prohibit atrocities on people and such perpetrators will face legal proceedings. This law can be distinguished according to the acts of atrocities. The offensive conducts may be international or transnational. International crimes include thread against world security, genocide and war crimes. Transnational crimes include drug trafficking and terrorism among other crimes (Partin). Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Since early 1988, the area of Nagorno-Karabakh has been in dispute and been the cause of major conflicts between the South Caucasian nations of Azerbajian and Armenia. Throughout the conflict there have been thousands of deaths and even more refugees. A portion of over 14 percent of the area has been occupied by the Armenian forces after evicting all the Azeri population. The conflict is considered as internal or

EVALUATION REPORT Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
EVALUATION REPORT - Essay Example I arranged all the props that were necessary for my film. In my opinion, the location was satisfactory for this project. The worst thing with my film was the casting. I believe it is not only my fault. At first, my group members and I agreed to find only two actors for each oneââ¬â¢s films. However, I was told one week before the filming that we have to look for them individually. I started searching quickly to find actors. In casting call pro, I sent emails to some professional actors but they were all busy. I then sent an email to an actress in Starnow Co., U.K. but she was a singer. I asked her if she knows any actor. She said she knows someone but the actor was a puppeteer. They agreed to be in my film. They went to the location but they were two hours late. It was difficult working with them because they were not real professional actors. I had to let them act in my film because they were in Salisbury and it was not going to cost too much. I know that casting is really import ant but in this project I failed to find the perfect cast. I can however say that all my group members were very supportive while we were filming. Sound I was the sound designer for Nathan Webberââ¬â¢s film. I cannot say I did it correctly because Nathanââ¬â¢s script was not ready until the filming day. I was only able to read the script on the filming day itself. I have a Sony and Warner Bros. CD sound effects library. I shared the CDs with them. In my film, Lara Hewitt was my sound designer. She did quite well while I was editing. She mixed sounds separately and we incorporated them in my film. We tried to mix them correctly and I think it turned out well. I used the boom in Laraââ¬â¢s film. I tried to use it correctly as we have seen in the workshop before the filming week. Cinematography Cinematography is my main interest and I believe it will be my specialization in the future. I really enjoyed being a cinematographer in Leanne Lewisââ¬â¢s film. Before we filmed it, I watched the Kodak tutorial DVD series on cinematography. I also read the book of Vittorio Storaro to understand the lighting theory. I tried to apply what I have seen for Leanneââ¬â¢s film. In her script, there was a hospital scene. To create a curtain shadow effect, I used blinds. I know it was not perfect but it was acceptable under studio circumstances. There were only two camera setups in her film and there were no difficult shots. I tried to do framing as Leanne told me. In my film, Leanne was my D.O.P and I believe she did well. Nathan also helped her. For sure, there were some wrong lighting setups. Directing As a director, it was so difficult for me to work with the actors whom I mentioned above. Moreover, it was my first film. It is even more difficult to talk about the shots. I think that only some of them were correct. I had to cross the line in one shot while the actress was sitting because of the fire exit behind her. Due to the nasty background, I decided to chan ge the shot. Even if I know that using zoom is not natural, I wanted to use the zoom shot to create some emotional effects. I would have preferred using the dolly rather than the zoom shots. Leanne was using the camera and I believe she did it naturally and so with her slow zoom shots. Scriptwriting I believe my idea was good enough for this project. However, because of the limited conditions of the location, I had to change the end of the story. I was told to use only one part of the cafe but it

Gleevac - Essay Example It has four pKa values; 1.52, 2.56, 3.73, 8.07, very soluble in buffers of PH 5.5 and slightly soluble in neutral/alkaline aqueous buffers. Gleevec recognizes the auto inhibitory conformation of the activation loop of the protein that regulates the kinase activity. The structure of inactive state is distinct between different kinases. It has a half-life of 15 hours and allows daily administration. Gleevec is used to treat the chronic phase of CML though applications have been found in Advanced and blast crisis phases. Its efficacy has been found to reduce with phase progression. Most patients that donââ¬â¢t respond to gleevec are in advanced stages of CML at the initiation of treatment. Failure rate of imatinib in patient with chronic phase CML remains low(at less than 15%at 18 months) in patients who did not respond to interferon. In the 1980ââ¬â¢s and 90ââ¬â¢s much skepticism prevailed first on the development of compounds with specificity among protein kinases. Secondly, the targeting of singular molecular defects seemed insufficient in the treatment of highly heterogeneous cancer [11]. Gazit in 1989 reported low molecular weight tyrosine kinase inhibitors with selective activity towards EGFR. These inhibitors were called tyrophostins. Tyrophostins were useful in selective antiproliferation agents for proliferative diseases caused by hyperactivity of protein tyrosine kinases. Though tyrophostins were not clinically developed, they provided the proof of the principle of selective inhibition of tyrosine kinases by using small molecules [16]. Subsequently 2 phenylaminopyrimidines were reported as selective inhibitors for protein kinases C (PKC), Abelson (ABL) and platelet derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) kinases [3]. Tyrosine kinases mediate many of the signaling pathways by which cancer cells prom ote their proliferation and survival. They control cellular function and are thought to be too similar to be inhibited in-vivo [15]. Overall imatinib shows

Psychology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Psychology - Essay Example According to Sacks, ââ¬Å"Does the mind run the brain or the brain the mind?â⬠This poses an interesting question regarding the development of mental abilities, which runs parallel to that of the nature vs. nurture debate. Are cognitive abilities the result of the neurology and brain development of the person, or does what a person learns influence brain development? The question is similar to that of the chicken and the egg. Thus, the question of whether our abilities are biologically driven or if they are environmentally driven are laid as a foundation to human growth and development. The compendium of human knowledge and consciousness is seated within our skulls as the brain. The brain is the most vital organ in our body in that it controls everything, both voluntary and involuntary. It is a vast collection of neurons, which work together to rely, process, and send out information. It is organized into different lobes that govern different cognitive tasks that develop with a ge. As a person ages, these parts of the brain become more complex and eventually start working together in order to processes and integrate things together. The conscious and the unconscious merge here with the storage of memory and the performance of cognitive tasks. One of the most unique features of the brain is in its adaptability (plasticity). If a part of the brain becomes injured, it will rewire itself by creating new pathways in order to bypass the damaged tissue. As a person learns, the brain rewires itself in order to make new connections to make the pathways of thought more efficient and complex. However, the reason that a person is able to learn is due to the fact that these pathways have already been created. Even as the brain develops, there is a certain threshold that is met in which the neurons will eventually lose productivity and die off. Because of this learning is hindered, however recent studies show that additional cognitive exercises can keep these neurons al ive longer, thus showing how an environmental, or rather external stimulus, can play a part in being able to alter the physiology of a person. The first basis that psychology looks at is from the biological/physiological standpoint. Innately, humans are born with traits, which are derived from a genetic code. These discrete units, called genes, are passed down from generation to generation. The genetic code, DNA, encodes for proteins and other chemical components in the brain. As a result, some behaviors and physiological functions are affected by errors or mutations in the DNA. These mutations can occur as the result of random probability as well as through interaction of environmental effects. Thus, the behavior of an individual can result from these inherent features, which are determined by biology. For example, in cases of aggression, researchers find that amounts of testosterone in an individual can effect how aggressive an individual is. Both male and female individuals have testosterone in their body (except in the case of some genetic disorders). However, there are factors in which the levels of testosterone in the body can either be abnormally high or abnormally low. Thus, we see deviations from the normal patterns of behavior. From this example, it can be shown that biology and genetics does play a role in influencing human behavior. Another important basis in biopsychology is the development of the
